Arm Holdings PLC

Arm Holdings PLC is the holding company for Arm, a UK-based developer of processor designs used widely across the technology industry.  Arm was formed in 1990 and built a model of licensable IP for RISC processors.  Its technology is leased by major corporations, such as Apple, to power laptops, tablets and smartphones.  In recent years, Arm has moved into the data centre, powering virtual instances as alternatives to x86, including Graviton at AWS, Cobalt at Microsoft Azure and Axion at Google Cloud.

RISC-based processors represent the future of core computing tasks, due to the efficiency of the architecture over legacy solutions such as x86.  Arm recently announced the possibility of manufacturing processors in addition to the existing licensing models.
