In this episode, Chris discusses the concept of the Open Data Lakehouse, with Sam Pierson (CTO, Qlik) and Ori Rafael (Senior Director of Engineering, Qlik). As data becomes an increasingly important strategy within the enterprise, business want to scale access to information rapidly, while maintaining a control on costs.
The Qlik Open Lakehouse, based on a a fully-managed Apache Iceberg solution has now been integrated into the Qlik Talend Cloud and recently reached general availability. Sam and Ori take Chris through a discussion that explains the evolution of data warehouses to the lakehouse concept and how Apache Iceberg has emerged as the open source standard for Lakehouse metadata.
Qlik Open Lakehouse brings the skills and IP from the Qlik acquisition of Upsolver in January 2025, where Ori was CEO and co-founder. The capabilities of Upsolver to optimise storage and lakehouse resources are now fully integrated into Qlik Talend Cloud.
