Podcast #270 – Exploring the SNIA Storage.AI Initiative with Dr J Metz

Chris EvansData Mobility, Data Practice: Data Storage, Podcast, Storage

In this podcast episode, Chris Evans discusses Storage.AI, a new initiative from the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) with Chair, Dr J Metz. Dr J works for AMD as a Technical Director but is also on several industry committees, acting as Chair for SNIA and the Ultra Ethernet Consortium.

The adoption of AI raises many issues for data processing and data management, resulting in potential inefficiencies across infrastructure. Storage.AI is an initiative aimed at bringing the storage industry together to use existing and new standards to make the processing of data for AI efficient and as fast as possible.

This conversation focuses on why standards are required, particularly to bring vendors and developers in line with a common goal. Dr J starts by outlining the unique issues relating to AI and HPC type workloads in general, before explaining how SNIA aims to bring the industry together to solve the problems.

During the conversation, Dr J discusses the SNIA Developer Conference, which can be found here – SNIA Developer Conference. Additionally, the Storage.AI website, not at the obvious address but can be found under SNIA.AI here – Storage.AI.
